Kevin McKay…

Kevin was born on April 27, 1984, in Southern Maryland. He graduated from Maurice McDonough High School in 2002 and then topped his class at the University of Maryland, College Park in 2006 with an Engineering degree. Kevin worked as the vice president at R&R Mechanical, Inc. He also explored Real Estate and belonged to the South River Golf Club. Kevin, known as #KevinStrong, was the leading fundraiser in the Race For Hope — DC.

He liked investing, traveling, golf, boating, watching sports, playing poker, joking, and making people laugh. He loved being with his family.

Kevin thoroughly loved life, worked relentlessly to provide for his family and always found a way to see the joy in every day despite his illness. He left a legacy here on earth that was so profound we chose to continue on by leading just as he would have.

The day our life changed forever…

On July 15th, 2016, approximately 5 miles away from our hotel in Myrtle Beach, SC with our two children in tow, Kevin experienced his first grand mal seizure in the passenger seat of our SUV as we were in route to our annual family vacation.

After contacting emergency assistance, Kevin was transported and admitted to Grand Strand Trauma Hospital in Myrtle Beach, SC. Following blood work, Cat Scans and an MRI they found two lesions located in the frontal lobe of the left hemisphere of his brain. Immediately we were admitted for observation overnight and then discharged in the afternoon on Saturday, July 17th, 2016. The hospital was unable, with their expertise, to correctly give us a diagnosis of cancer at that time.

After staying an extra night in South Carolina with family, we made the decision to return to Annapolis. The focus had shifted from vacation to survival mode overnight. We would learn quickly that survival mode would be the only mode possible during our journey with brain cancer. Finding answers and help for Kevin’s unknown and abnormal brain activity was and would be our mission for the next two years and fifteen days.
